Hello everyone. If you don't know me, my name is Elizabeth and I am trying to help provide care for my mom, Rose.
In 2019, Rose was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer. In Jan of 2023, she miraculously received word from her doctor that she was cancer-free. At that same time, my dad, Maurice, developed Lewy Body dementia. For the next 18 months, Rose continued targeted therapy to keep the cancer away while she cared for my father until his death in August. Her doctors, after a PET scan showed all clear, decided to give Rose a "vacation" from targeted therapy. In January 2025, she began having trouble with her right hand. It was attributed to a slip and fall while walking the beloved dog, Jessie. After some time, the right hand was getting worse. Doctors began running tests, but before all the tests could be done, she took a sudden turn. After a walk with a friend, a wonderful neighbor found her wandering in the road. He stopped to help, and she was very confused and had no use of her right arm. She was taken by ambulance to the hospital where it was discovered that the cancer had returned and metastasized on her brain in the form of 29 lesions. She spent 2 weeks in the hospital and rehab facility in hopes of improving her mobility, speech, and memory loss. They have also set up radiation therapy in hopes of providing a better quality of life. Upon returning home, another decline came. The care she requires is far more than we are capable of providing at home. Her primary care doctor feels it would be best for her to be in a hospital or skilled nursing facility close to the place she is getting radiation. We have just been informed that, even though she has great insurance, they will not cover the cost of a skilled nursing facility while Rose is receiving radiation. They pay for those places for a person to recover, but as radiation is hard, she will not make the necessary improvements until treatment is done. The only option is self-pay and although we can handle some, we need help. Any amount is a step closer and if you can't donate, a share of this page would mean the world. Thank you all so much! In her words, "I beat this once, I'll beat it again," and we want to give her the best chance at that.
