Help Give Chef Rick a Second Chance: Liver Transplant Fund
Donation protected
Rick Jeffrey, a longtime fixture in the Wichita restaurant industry (Carlos O' Kellys, Red Beans/Red Mesa, caterer and personal chef is in need of a liver transplant. Over the last 3 years, his family bore the significant financial burden of numerous hospital stays, trips to KU Medical Center and rehabilitation while waiting for a donor.
Now is the time to help Rick financially and put something on his plate to assist with the large future expense needed to get him back to health. Please give all you can (large or small) by donating to his GoFund me.
He is a loving father, husband, "Pop Pop" and friend to so many. He was diagnosed with NASH which is Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. Doctors have told us that a liver transplant is his only chance for a full recovery. For a few years prior to that we had no idea why he was as sick as he was or why he couldn't remember things. He has been fighting so hard these past 3 years since we found out he was eligible to be put on the transplant list. What we didn't know was how long and exhausting this journey would be for all of us, especially him.
The financial burden of this entire process is overwhelming. Because of how sick Rick is he had to shut down Red Beans To Go, which gave him so much joy. My mom has been trying to do this by herself behind the scenes without asking for much help. I come to you guys humbly to say we need help now. The bills are piling up even after insurance. My mom still works full time and is my dad's caregiver. She can only do so much, and I want to try to help her with this anyway I can. Rick now requires round the clock care. He has been in the hospital going on 7 weeks now.
Rick has always been our rock, and now it’s our turn to support him. If you can donate, even a small amount, it will make a huge difference. And if you could share this campaign with others, we would be grateful.
Rick has rarely complained or given up any hope that we will get a liver! He's his same happy, optimistic and goofy self. His biggest goal in this is to be here with his family and especially take his grandsons to fish and teach them how to cook.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for even reading this. We appreciate every single one of you!!
With love,
Chelsea and Angie
