Kodiak Island Brazilian Jiu Jitsu has been a small martial arts club in Kodiak, Alaska, for over 6 years. Throughout that time, we have served our community by teaching both self-defense and the competitive sport of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. We’ve welcomed many members through our doors and have continued to grow despite location changes.

We are now transitioning from a local club to an established nonprofit organization. Our mission is to expand access to martial arts in Kodiak by offering more class times and introducing youth programs in addition to our adult classes.

Recently, our classes have grown so much that our current mat space can no longer safely accommodate all of our students. We currently use a donated 40x15 wrestling mat from Kodiak High School. With class sizes growing, we no longer have the space to allow people to participate for the entirety of class.

To support this growth, we are raising funds to purchase new mats that can accommodate our expanding class sizes. Our goal is to acquire a 40x40 foot roll-up wrestling mat, which will provide enough room for everyone to train safely and effectively.

The costs of the mats will be approximately $6000 dollars. Shipping to Kodiak, Alaska is going to be approximately $1000. Any additional funds will be put into a general fund to assist in finding a new space so we may be able to offer more classes and continue to expand.
