Donate for needs-based music scholarships

The Blankenship Memorial Project is a need-based music scholarship program that aims to financially support young musicians ages 7-18 as they receive an education in the musical instrument of their choice. This program was founded by MTAC Alameda County East Branch in 1996, and since then, we have helped hundreds of children receive a music education that otherwise would not have been possible. The program is solely funded through charitable donations.

Studies have shown that music lessons provide therapeutic effects while building intellectual capabilities in children." The beneficial effects of music training are in review of the available literature suggests a beneficial effect of music training in core executive function performance, primarily in inhibitory control, and to a lesser extent, in working memory and cognitive flexibility." (1) The earlier private music education is introduced in a child's life, the better the potential outcomes. However, children from low-income families cannot reap the benefits of private music education. With more and more children of migrant, refugee, or asylum seeker families entering the United States, making these opportunities available to them has never been more critical.
