Miles Ethan Pettey was born on March 2, 1987 to parents Bruce and Melinda Pettey. He grew up in Houston, Texas and attended local public schools while pursuing his passion for martial arts. Miles began his martial arts journey at the age of 4. He trained in Kung Fu, Jujitsu and Kook Sul Won, but excelled in the Tan Soo Do discipline, reaching a skill level high enough to engage in his love of teaching. He taught martial arts into his late 20s, sharing his love of the sport with others that also enjoyed the self-discipline and dedication that Tan Soo Do offered. He fell in love, married, and had his wonderful son Nathan during this time.
Unfortunately, as happens to many a young love, the marriage was dissolved and Miles was now a single father. Feeling the financial struggles and pressures of being a young single dad, Miles dedicated himself to self-improvement and growth. Nathan was his everything and his sole purpose in life, so to provide for him and ensure his success, Miles enrolled in the University of Houston.
During his university years, Miles poured himself into his son. Raising him to be a problem solver, a critical thinker, intelligent, witty and above all, kind, just like his father. They spent many days in the yard throwing the football and talking. They gamed together, played cards, wrestled, went on camping trips with friends, walked the dogs together every night, tried new restaurants, and practiced martial arts — they did everything together. Miles lit up when Nate was home with him. They were best friends. Nathan was the person that meant more to Miles than anything in the world.
As you would guess, Nathan flourished under his father's guidance and unconditional love. He is a straight-A student and pursued his passion for the Cello, where he has excelled and performed to adoring audiences.
Miles soon graduated from the university with a math degree and started his career as an Actuary. They were living their best lives and and they would be able to spend most of their time together from here on out. They began looking for a house and had dreams of a brighter future. They were on cloud nine when tragedy struck.
On Saturday, September 24, 2022, at age 35, Miles Ethan Petty suffered a fatal heart attack while he and his son watched a movie together. Nathan, at the age of 12, lost his best friend and father, that adored him.
Nathan's whole world has been turned upside down at the loss of his father and the news of having to move to another state, leaving the only home he's ever known and all his friends. His bright future, which was once planned and thought out through the love of his dad, is now in need of help. We want to ensure that Nathan continues to develop his unique gifts and has opportunities in the future that his father would have done anything to make a reality. Any donation you can offer would be greatly appreciated and placed into a trust for his higher education.
Thank you for taking the time to read about this incredible person who dedicated his life to his son. Thank you for your compassion for his child and any support you are willing to contribute. May you keep your family close, tell them you love them and never forget how precious and fragile life on this planet truly is.
