Donate for Maureo's Healing and Care

Hi everyone,

I want to thank you all for reaching out and expressing interest in helping Maureo with his recovery and necessities as he starts his long journey of recovery. The family has set up this GoFundMe to support his various needs and growing expenses required to provide him care.

As many of you know, Maureo has been excelling at Central Washington University. Unfortunately, a couple of weeks ago, he was involved in a single-car crash and was life-flighted to Harborview Trauma Hospital, where they discovered a major brain injury affecting both sides of his brain. While details about the accident remain uncertain, we do know that no one else was impacted, the damage was minimal, and no police investigation is ongoing. We are extremely grateful that Maureo is alive.

For the first five days, Maureo was not awake due to brain bleeding. It's been two weeks since the accident, and his family and friends have been with him every step of the way. He has moved from the ER to the ICU, and now to a regular hospital room, where he struggles with understanding his surroundings, talking, eating, and walking. He does recognize faces, so we encourage you to reach out to Deven (brother) and Lauren (sister) for the latest visiting information. He has now moved to the University of Washington Rehabilitation Center, where he will spend time relearning skills such as walking, normal daily tasks, eating, talking, and other cognitive activities.

Maureo will be exiting the hospital in the coming weeks, and we will need everyone’s support to ensure he has the best resources available for a speedy recovery. This includes your time, money, emotional support, guidance, expertise, etc. If you wish to support Maureo, please donate to the GoFundMe, where the family will use the funds to meet his needs. The doctors have stated this will be a long journey for him, requiring your continued support for six months or more.

Special thanks to those who have already spent time with Maureo while he’s been in the hospital. The doctors and nurses have told us that your efforts have significantly contributed to accelerating his recovery. Without that support, he would most likely still be restrained and heavily medicated. It’s been a tough two weeks for the family—we are all exhausted. Therefore, we welcome any support that anyone can provide.

We will be using this GoFundMe not only to receive support from family and friends but also to keep everyone updated. It’s been challenging to keep everyone informed while maintaining our own balance of self-care, so we ask for your patience as we are all in survival mode. This site will allow us to minimize the large volume of text messages that the family has been struggling to keep up with.

For those who do not know me, I am Maureo's uncle, Chad Hasbrook. I was his legal guardian for almost three years when he was a teenager. I still think of him as my 'little guy,' along with Deven and Lauren, whom I call 'my kiddos,' even though they are now grown adults. Please feel free to reach out to me directly using GoFundMe with any questions or connect with me over LinkedIn.

Breakdown on how the funds will be used:
  • medical devices buy or rent
  • modify slip fall and safety changes to home
  • travel cost (appointments, family/resource costs for care, ferry, gas, parking, food, etc.)
  • medical bills
  • rehabilitation services
  • accidents related expenses
  • services, resources or costs to enable independence (this is our long-term goal)
