Maddix had his life-saving surgery on October 6, 2025 and is now home. But this is where the struggle begins. Hello, my name is Alana and this is the story about my grandson Maddix. Maddix was diagnosed with VSD. Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) can cause a bluish tint to the skin, lips, and fingernails, particularly in babies, due to the mixing of oxygen-poor (blue) and oxygen-rich (red) blood. This occurs because a VSD is a hole in the septum, the wall separating the heart's two lower chambers (ventricles), allowing blood to flow from the left to the right ventricle. This abnormal mixing of blood can lead to reduced oxygen levels in the body, causing a bluish discoloration called cyanosis.
