This past Sunday my dear friend Tracy found out that her beloved cat Luke tested positive for both FIV, which causes a weakened immune system, and FeLV (feline leukemia virus). Luke recently lost a lot of weight within a short span of time and at the ER vet they determined he was both FIV+ and FeLV+. When he was originally adopted nothing was said about him being positive for either virus.
Many cats can live a long healthy life with FIV however, with FeLV their life expectancy is cut short to around 6 years.
Thankfully, Tracy’s other cats were retested and had negative results for both. (Neither virus can be transmitted to humans or dogs.)
These diagnoses are serious and it means Luke will need ongoing veterinary care and close monitoring to keep him comfortable and healthy for as long as possible. These funds will be used to cover Luke’s vet visits, medication and end of life costs.
Tracy has one of the biggest hearts I know when it comes to animals. She’s fostered countless cats and litters of tiny kittens over the years, giving them love, safety, and a chance at a better life. Now she’s the one who could use some help.
The cost of Luke’s tests, treatments, and follow-up visits is adding up quickly, and Tracy is facing about $3,000 in vet bills. If you’re able to contribute—no matter the amount—it would make a real difference in helping her focus on Luke’s care instead of the financial strain.
Thank you so much for helping Tracy and Luke through this difficult time. Every donation and share means the world.
From Tracy: “I am heartbroken and in complete shock over the news. Luke has always been such a sweet soul and so friendly with any foster that came through. He truly is the best cat that came into my life. I always expected him to live a great long life but the universe has other plans. He doesn’t deserve this.”
