Donate for Jericho Town Library's Future

As we celebrate the 200th birthday of Jericho Town Library's building, we are asking for your help to preserve and strengthen our beloved library for generations to come!

In 1825, our building started its life as a school called Jericho Academy. Over the last two centuries, it has served our town as a center of learning and community, with the library moving into the building in 1925. In the 1950s, the building was almost demolished in order to create space to pave and widen Browns Trace. Recognizing its important role in the community, as well as its value as a historic building, a group of committed citizens worked to save the library, ultimately putting it on logs and using horses to relocate the building to its current home on Jericho Center Circle.

Just as it did 70 years ago, Jericho Town Library desperately needs the love and support of its community. While the building is in remarkable shape for its age, we need to make several critical structural repairs to the foundation, attic, cupola, and porch. We plan to incorporate these repairs into our work to make our beautiful building accessible to all Vermonters.

With $100,000 already committed from the Town through ARPA funds and additional private donations, we are well on our way—but we need your support to reach our goal. The first phase of the project, covering all critical structural repairs, will cost $325,000. Phase Two will focus on long-overdue accessibility upgrades, including a ground-floor entrance and an accessible bathroom, so that every member of our community—especially those using mobility aids—can enjoy our programs, collections, and historic space. Both phases bring our total fundraising goal to $750,000. Every gift, no matter the size, brings us closer to ensuring our beloved 200-year-old library remains safe, welcoming, and accessible to all.
