My name is Jake and I was diagnosed at 3 years old with Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type 3, and I have been wheelchair-bound since I was 13. Although life has been a struggle, I was able to work as a graphic designer, and I found the love of my life, got married, and was blessed with four beautiful kids. Since then, I have regressed and I'm not able to work any longer, forcing me and my family to live on a very fixed income.
Currently, we live in a three-bedroom, one-bathroom house with some modifications to make it as handicap accessible as possible in the small amount of space that we have. Although the bathroom has been somewhat modified, it is still too small to fit a Hoyer lift in the room, making it difficult for me to take care of my hygiene and toileting needs. Due to this, my caretakers are forced to lift me whenever I have a bathroom need, which concerns me for their and my safety.
I am in desperate need of a ceiling track lift that can transfer me to the toilet and shower. My waiver will not cover the full cost for this much-needed modification. In addition, I need a seated tub to soak in, which will assist with weight distribution and allow for better hygiene and skin care.
Any donations offered will be greatly appreciated in order for me to address this necessity and grant me the ability to use my bathroom with comfort and safety. Thank you and God bless.
