On November 26, 2025, a massive fire swept through several towers of Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po, Hong Kong. The blaze destroyed apartments, burned documents and belongings, and left many residents without a home. According to the latest reports, at least 128 people have lost their lives, and hundreds of residents are displaced or unaccounted for.
I’m Ivan Chan, writing from Milton, Massachusetts. I consider Hong Kong my second home. Much of my extended family and many family friends live in Hong Kong, and hearing what they have seen along with following local news made me want to help in a meaningful way. Many survivors are now trying to replace items they lost in minutes, find temporary housing in an already expensive city, and cover the costs of restoring what they need to return to daily life.
This fundraiser focuses on these specific needs that displaced families are struggling with right now:
- Replacing essential personal items such as clothing, bedding, and basic household necessities
- Temporary housing support for residents who lost their homes or cannot safely return
- Document replacement fees, including IDs, medical records, school documents, and tenancy papers
- Basic communication needs, especially SIM cards, chargers, and mobile data
- Early recovery costs that fall outside initial emergency aid, including transportation and food supplies
All money will be split and sent directly to Caritas Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Council of Social Service, both of which are actively assisting displaced residents.
Once funds are transferred, I will share the total amount raised, the platform fees deducted, the exchange rate used, the amount sent to each nonprofit, and confirmation that the donations were received by December 14.
