May Update!!
Grandpa got his surgery and is healing with Liz. The remainder of his teeth were removed and soon he will not have an issue eating or needing pain meds any longer. What an amazing, strong cat he is. Strays have it rough and the support Grandpa has gotten will let him live the remainder of his life without being in pain in order to eat. Thank you everyone who has helped him!
Last year 2024 Liz noticed Grandpa (one of her local stray cats that she feeds) was not eating the food she leaves out for the feral cats, he would sit by the bowl of food but couldn’t eat. She trapped and took him to the vet and they realized he had stomatitis, he had inflamed gums and decaying teeth. He got antibiotics and a steroid injection. He was tested negative for FeLV/FIV/HW Snap Test.
After that he ran away for about 3 weeks and then slowly started to comeback because she would feed him wet food when she would see him.
She took him to the vet again where he was prescribed buprenorphine for pain until he got the recommended surgery (full teeth removal).
By this point he was living in her garage/ laundry room and was used to her giving him wet food and his meds daily.
After several vet visits and quotes she decided on Houston Pet Dental. He was scheduled for surgery Feb 2025 but after doing bloodwork we got notified he had moderate anemia and had at least half of his red blood cells gone. After a course of antibiotics he finally had teeth extraction surgery on March 2025. They were able to remove 60% of his teeth. The rest of this mouth and gums were in such bad shape they couldn’t work on it .
The doctor shared his X-rays and most of his teeth are broken. His next surgery date is May 15th. In the meantime they are still dealing with an inflamed mouth and he is on Presnisolone and buprenorphine for pain.
I am helping Liz get attention for him since this is Grandpas second dental surgery and we are hoping to get as much help as possible since this will end up being $1300 not including all of the other vet visits and medicine.
Lets help Grandpa!!
