This family is in need of immediate help. They are being evicted from their home.
I know it is a little long, but please read to the end.
My name is Camille Hughes Young and I would like to introduce you to a sweet young man, 17 year old Faylyn Campbell. I met Faylyn through my sister Celeste, who is his home health care nurse.
On April 10, 2024, at 3:08 PM in Conway, Arkansas, Faylyn's life took a tragic turn. Faylyn and his best friend of 15 years were messing around with what they assumed were unloaded guns. Unfortunately, at least one was loaded. Faylyn suffered a gunshot wound to the neck, shattering the C3-C4 vertebrae and leaving him paralyzed from the neck down. Life as the Campbell family once knew it has now changed in ways they never could have thought possible. After spending 9 months in the hospital, Faylyn was released and sent home on November 4, 2024.
Faylyn is now dependent upon a machine to breath for him. Faylyn is missing out on what most of us take for granted: going to school, school dances, dating, playing basketball with his younger siblings, learning to drive and working an after-school job. Not only the long term things, but the day to day things we take for granted: being a quadriplegic requires 2 or 3 people to turn him, bathe him, move him from bed to wheelchair. He receives 16 hours of nursing care each day and the remaining 8 hours he is cared for by his mother and grandmother.
They are being evicted from their apartment. Britney Campbell is supporting her 3 sons on a monthly disability check. Besides Faylyn there is Calvin (3) and Cal (11) who is autistic. Money is tight so when repairs were needed to her car, she got behind on her rent.
The apartment they currently live in is too small and in my opinion over priced at $1,400/month. Faylyn's hospital bed is set up in the living room, which offers him no privacy as well as impacting the rest of his family. Think about it, where do you have guests sit when they come to visit? While Faylyn loves visitors, not everyone is there to see him. They need more space.
He is in and out of the hospital quite often. What we would consider a minor illness is not minor for Faylyn. Any type of illness can be life-threatening. The family doesn't have a vehicle equipped to transport him to and from his appointments or on family outings to the movies, the park, or even to a family member's home for family gatherings. They need a vehicle capable of transporting Faylyn comfortably and safely.
His mother says, "He feels like he is a burden on all our lives. That he has no quality of life and would be better off deceased." She disagrees: She loves all her children just as they are. But, she never planned on tragedy entering their lives. Since then, their needs have changed and she needs help.
She is not asking for anything extravagant, just help to get into an apartment or house that is better suited to Faylyn's long-term needs and care. And a vehicle capable of transporting Faylyn comfortably and safely.
Where will your donations go:
Finding suitable housing:
Wheelchair accessible via ramp or flat entrance from the parking area. Wide interior and exterior doors allowing wheelchair access. A bedroom or other private area that is large enough for Faylyn's hospital bed and the equipment necessary to care for him. Easily accessible route leading from his room to the home's entrance.
Once they are in more suitable housing, they will use any remaining funds towards a vehicle to transport Faylyn.
Please share this with your friends and family. Any help that we can give to this family will be greatly appreciated. Also, remember to lift this family up in your thoughts and prayers.
