Shortly after 8 a.m. on Wednesday, 10/9/24, my niece and nephew, Charleigh and Cannon McCabe, and their maternal grandfather were in a serious car accident on the way to school. They were hit on the passenger side by an 18-wheeler log truck.

Their grandfather was banged up and bruised, Cannon walked away with a scratch and some bruises, but Charleigh was airlifted to CHOA. Her side of the car took the biggest hit, and although she is mostly unharmed from her neck down, she took a massive hit to the head. She suffered a skull fracture and bleeding and swelling on the brain.

She was rushed into surgery where two mesh plates were inserted into her forehead to repair the fracture, and the large laceration was closed up with sutures. She is currently being kept sedated to allow her brain and body to heal.
