The Clegg family is moving forward with our father’s medical care after several hard years.

For those who have not known our situation, our Dad, Bruce Clegg/Pastor Bruce/Dr. Bruce PhD, suffered a stroke in June of 2020. Yes, right in the thick of all the Covid-19 shutdowns and the hospital lockdowns, Bruce was taken to the hospital, which started the journey we have been navigating for the past 4 years. The memory issues we saw before the stroke were then exacerbated. After testing with a neurologist, in April of 2021, our Dad was officially diagnosed with mid-stage Alzheimer’s. The doctor informed us that most patients live about 10 years, but that Dad was already 5 years in. We were all shocked! After the devastating news, we have been working with doctors to properly care for Dad’s needs. After the loss of our sister, Tamie, we saw a rapid decline in his ability to comprehend basic daily tasks.

We are now approaching 5 years from those fateful days, and the progression of our Dad has reached a pinnacle. Our Mom has been working diligently at her full-time job, trying to keep all the medical bills paid, as well as hiring as much help as possible. All of us kids have been taking shifts as caregivers to help alleviate the cost of the care. That being said, we have reached a point in his care in which we are unable to care for him at home safely, since he needs 24-hour care. In addition to safety, the toll, stress, and burden this has placed on our mother is unfathomable. Mom cannot continue this pace without affecting her health. We have reviewed many options. The memory care facilities which would provide the best care for our Dad’s needs are costly.

We know that Bruce has made an incredible impact on many lives. Before his diagnosis, Dad poured his life into serving, loving, and helping others in need. We are reaching out to friends and family for help. We know there are many families, marriages, and communities that have been impacted by Bruce and Kathy Clegg and the children they raised.
