Our friend and lifelong tennis advocate Blythe Hewitt passed away suddenly on September 3, 2025, at the age of 71. She was born and raised in Sacramento, leaving so many to mourn her loss. Blythe was a beloved member of the McKinley Park tennis community, known for her affection for the game and willingness to coach others. As a sophomore at Peach Tree High School, she was introduced to tennis by her teacher Carolyn Sellers. It was a match from the beginning! The perfect game to harness Blythe's energy. She then pursued it through college and never left the court. In this spirit, we felt the best memorial would be a permanent bench in McKinley Park. A place for reflection, taking a load off, or just watching others at play. The courts gave Blythe so much pleasure; how fitting that her name lives on among the trees and tennis balls. The City of Sacramento Parks Department will construct and install the bench. Friends of Blythe and the park, can enjoy it. You know we'll hear that voice of hers telling you where to stand, and how to hold the racket! It is our hope that those enjoying the bench will send a photo to Kathy so she can feel the love for Blythe.
We are raising funds to cover these expenses, as well as a memorial plaque. Thank you for your donations. We look forward to letting you know about its completion and installment ceremony.
