On October 2, 2024, the unimaginable occurred. After a short hospital stay the weekend prior for what seemed to be high blood pressure, Anh Nguyen- Gibson, started experiencing a headache following dinner. When she asked for her husband, Mickey, to rub her head to assist in alleviating the discomfort as she typically would, she abruptly felt a discomfort. Her complaints were very different and alarming to Mickey. She quickly noticed numbness in her arm which prompted Mickey to call 911.
Once vitals were obtained, the paramedics realized this situation was critical and a matter of life and death. They took her to the nearest hospital where her condition was immediately diagnosed as a stroke. Unsure of the severity, Anh was intubated and administered several medications to alleviate the pain, sedate her and keep her movement to a bare minimum, allowing the swelling on her brain to reduce.
Upon the initial diagnosis which was said to look quite grim. Additional consultations were completed confirming that she suffered an intraventricular hemorrhagic stroke and while in the medically induced coma, she suffered a significant seizure.
All the medical professionals assigned to her care agreed the best treatment plan for the time being was allowing the brain to begin it's healing process while being appropriately medicated.
While physical movements began increasing as the medications were reduced, the brain scans continued to show the swelling in her brain was not dissipating and full function would not be obtainable with this pressure still present. The decision was made to perform a procedure to assist in alleviating any pressure or fluids that were deterring anymore healing.
At this stage, Anh is still in critical condition, yet she is stable. We are hopeful her strong and determined personality, the happiness that she feels for her family and friends, her passion for music from (the artist formerly know as Prince and being in the BTS ARMY), will aide in her healing.
