Donate for a Generator to Save Shelter Animals
Donation protected
On Monday, July 15th, the Kanawha/Charleston Humane Society sent out an alert for help. When workers arrived at the facility that morning, they found that the strong storm that passed through Kanawha County had taken out the power to the shelter, leaving countless animals without air conditioning. The weather that day was set to hit 96 degrees, and without air conditioning, there was significant risk to all the animals currently being housed at the shelter. The Humane Society sent out an email asking that if anyone who could spare a cooler and ice to keep medications cold, fans or a generator could bring those items to the shelter immediately to assist the animals.
In an amazing community response, that call for help was answered with an incredible response from the community, including countless volunteers who took animals home for the day, brought in needed supplies, or offered a helping hand. I just happened to be one of those who responded.
Currently, the Kanawha/Charleston Humane Society does not have a backup generator to guarantee power during electric outages, leaving helpless animals at risk to heat exposure and medications that need refrigeration left to spoil. I know that we as a community can pull together to raise enough funds to help the Humane Society purchase an industrial generator, so that future risk to these vulnerable animals is avoided.
So I am asking that anyone who could see it in their heart to help donate money toward the purchase of a generator for the Humane Society please donate. They do an incredible service for animals in our community and we can help support them in this important work!
