In Karamoja, Uganda, a girl’s education can be stopped by something as simple as a sanitary pad.

Every month, many girls miss at least one week of school because they cannot afford menstrual products. Over time, this adds up to nearly three months of lost education every year. Some fall behind. Some drop out. Some are pushed into early marriage.

But these girls are not lacking intelligence or ambition; they are lacking access.

Karagirl Initiative was created to change that.

Led by Anastashia Natyang, former Miss Tourism Karamoja First Runner-Up 2024/2025 and Miss Rising Woman of Uganda Tourism, Karagirl works directly in rural schools and communities to ensure girls stay in school with dignity.

With limited resources, we have already supported over 450 girls by:

Providing sanitary pads

Training girls to make reusable pads

Supplying books, pens, and mathematical sets

Conducting sexual and reproductive health education sessions

We have seen girls return to school with confidence. We have seen attendance improve. We have seen hope restored.

However, the need is growing.

Funding cuts to community organisations, combined with poverty and climate-related challenges in Karamoja, have made it even harder for girls to access basic hygiene and school materials.

We are now raising €5,000 to expand our outreach to more rural schools and support hundreds more girls this year.
