My aim here is to raise funds to print 1,000 copies of my translation of O’tkan Kunlar in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. All printing costs and associated fees are $7.50 per copy, $7,500.00 needed for 1,000 copies. If we manage to raise a larger amount, we can drive down the per unit cost.
Those who donate can designate an institution of higher education, library, or public school to receive copies. We will ear-mark donor copies to the Ministry responsible for that institution, or you can hand deliver the copies yourself! Please take photos for social media posts!
If no institution is designated, rural communities will be the default recipients of books.
Also, we aim to present the local copies on 10 April, Abdullah Qodiry’s birthday— a long sought after goal of mine. If I receive outstanding support from the Uzbek government or donor communities I will hand deliver some of the copies to select regions in Uzbekistan myself!
This is the third book donation I’ve implemented in Uzbekistan over 28 years. My passion is to provide the 159 universities and corresponding libraries— as well as 10,300 maktabs— with embarrassment of riches in English translations of their national literary heritage: Cholpan, Hashimov, Navoi, Fitrat… among many others. All of you, dear friends, can have a hand in that effort!
