Donald Dixon, Firefighter Injured in a House Fire Collapse

Donation protected
On April 5th, 2024, firefighters from the Durham Fire Department were dispatched to a structure fire at a house with reports of victims trapped inside. Upon arrival they found heavy fire and immediately began a fire attack and a search for the victims. While engaged in that search, Fire Driver Donald Dixon (who was acting captain on Engine 12 that day) was caught in a roof collapse which set his gear on fire and melted his thermal imager and radio. He was able to crawl through flames to an escape opening that firefighters outside the collapse zone were able to breach for him.

He was transported to the UNC Burn Center with serious burns, blunt force trauma, and puncture wounds but gratefully was able to go home under the care of his wife, Robin. Although the department is covering his medical bills, there is still a significant loss of income for him as well as his wife who has missed work to help with his care. The purpose of this GoFundMe is to assist Donald and Robin with both routine and unexpected expenses so that they can focus on his recuperation.

Any amount helps, and all funds will go directly to Donald who will donate any unused contributions to assist other burn victims. Some may not be in a position to donate, but you can still help just by sharing this fundraiser.

Thankfully, the victims that had been reported trapped were able to escape prior to the collapse.
