Hola, mi nombre es Paola Lizeth Santos Alfaro y soy estudiante de Maestría en Ciencias en el Centro de Investigación en Alimentación y Desarrollo (CIAD), México. He sido invitada a presentar mi investigación en el 79th Annual Shellfish Growers Conference and Tradeshowel, que se celebrará en septiembre del 2025 en Vancouver, Washington, EUA.

Mi trabajo de investigación está enfocado en el diseño de un consorcio microbiano como una alternativa sustentable al uso de antibióticos en la acuicultura para combatir la enfermedad de AHPND en camarones Peneidos. El uso indiscriminado de antibióticos en la producción acuícola representa riesgos serios, como la generación de bacterias resistentes, impactos negativos en los ecosistemas marinos y riesgos para la salud humana.

En contraste, los probióticos ofrecen una solución segura y amigable con el medio ambiente, al mismo tiempo que preservan el equilibrio de nuestros ecosistemas.

Hello, my name is Paola Lizeth Santos Alfaro, and I am a Master’s student in Sciences at the Centro de Investigación en Alimentación y Desarrollo (CIAD), Mexico. I have been invited to present my research at the 79th Annual Shellfish Growers Conference and Tradeshow, to be held in September 2025 in Vancouver, Washington, USA.

My research focuses on the design of a microbial consortium as a sustainable alternative to the use of antibiotics in aquaculture, aimed at combating Acute Hepatopancreatic Necrosis Disease (AHPND) in penaeid shrimp. The indiscriminate use of antibiotics in aquaculture production poses serious risks, such as the emergence of resistant bacteria, negative impacts on marine ecosystems, and threats to human health.

In contrast, probiotics offer a safe and environmentally friendly solution, while also helping to preserve the balance of our ecosystems.

With your support, I will be able to attend this important international forum, share my research with the scientific community, and contribute to global efforts toward healthier and more sustainable aquaculture.
