My name is Eduardo Raimundo Peinado Rivero, I am 48 years old, and since 2021 I have not been able to return to my country. I am a political refugee; my family and I have suffered persecution, and I’ve had to rebuild my life far from home.

In the midst of this struggle, I received an even harder blow: I was diagnosed with Stage 4 renal cell carcinoma. My right kidney was removed, but the cancer had already spread. Today, I live with a paralyzed shoulder due to bone metastasis, which limits my mobility and is a constant reminder of how fragile life is.

The treatment I urgently need is a combination of Axitinib and Pembrolizumab—medications that offer real hope of slowing the disease. But their cost is overwhelming: $6,500 per month. I have no insurance, and there are no local programs that provide these drugs at an affordable price.

I am 48, and the most important part of my life is my 13-year-old daughter. My dream is simple: to keep being by her side, to watch her grow, to guide her through her teenage years, and to give her the love and support every daughter deserves from her father.

Mi nombre es Eduardo Raimundo Peinado Rivero, tengo 48 años y desde 2021 no he podido regresar a mi país. Soy refugiado político; mi familia y yo hemos sufrido persecución, y me ha tocado reconstruir mi vida lejos de casa.

En medio de esta lucha, recibí un golpe aún más duro: fui diagnosticado con cáncer renal de células claras en etapa 4. Ya me extirparon el riñón derecho, pero el cáncer se había extendido. Hoy vivo con el hombro paralizado por una metástasis ósea, lo que limita mi movilidad y me recuerda cada día lo frágil que es la vida.

El tratamiento que necesito con urgencia es una combinación de Axitinib y Pembrolizumab, medicamentos que me dan una esperanza real de frenar la enfermedad. Pero el costo es abrumador: 6.500 dólares al mes. No tengo seguro, y no existen programas locales que provean estas medicinas a un precio accesible.

Lo más importante de mi vida es mi hija de 13 años. Mi sueño es sencillo: seguir a su lado, verla crecer, acompañarla en su adolescencia y darle el amor y el apoyo que todo padre quiere dar a su hija.
