Don has always been there to help others whenever he could. Don has been a wonderful son, brother, husband, father, and friend. Always someone you can depend on, look up to, enjoy the good times with, and endure the hard times with. Even now, he concerns himself with the needs of others.

In December, Don was hospitalized for a few days and diagnosed with pleural effusion. They drained over 2 liters of fluid from the space between his left lung and the lining that surrounds the lung. After returning home, he was able to return to work for a few days a week, but could not handle full-time hours.

On March 21st, Don was hospitalized again. He had major surgery to debris the lung, but not all of the debris was able to be removed because it is so intertwined with the tissues of the lung, that it got to the point that the doctors were doing more damage than good. After 11 days, Don was back home, awaiting formal findings of the lab tests. The results are that Don has stage IV cancer. The cells are on the outside of his lung, and they don’t know exactly where it came from. The more recent follow-up scans show that the cancer has now spread vigorously, and now they can see many tumors. Don is now under emergency hospice care.

Between the reduction and loss of income, all of the extra costs of going to doctors and hospitals, the need to continue insurance coverage, and (go figure) a need for major car repair (the radiator blew), Don and his family need our help now. They are in the process of applying for other funds, but we all know, that it can take a while for those funds to kick in. I know that we can’t do a lot, but if a lot of us do a little, it will help him and his family significantly.
