Don Triffon Heart Transplant Recovery
Donation protected
As many of you know, Don has been battling a number of health issues for several years now including a diagnosis of Parkinson's Disease many years ago. We're very thankful that the Parkinson's has been manageable up to this point however several years back Don began having more issues related to his heart function. In early 2020 doctors recommended he start the process of trying to get on the heart transplant list. It was a year of many trials, tribulations and HARD work on Don's part. He battled through countless doctors appointments and tests, changed his diet and began focusing on gaining his physical strength back. All of this work to prove to the doctors that he was a good candidate and deserving of this second chance. All of that grit and determination paid off in January 2021 when he officially got on the transplant list!!
Mid-February 2021, Don's health began to decline to the point he needed to get admitted to the hospital. The evening of February 19 we got word that the doctors had found a donor heart and they thought it would be a good match for Don!! The stars aligned, and on February 20 around 4pm, Don underwent heart transplant surgery at St. Paul's Hospital.
Don is a loving husband, father, and grandpa to 4 little kiddos who are so lucky and thankful to have their grandpa around to watch them grow up thanks to this second chance at life! The surgery was a success and Don is in the early stages of recovery. But it is going to be a long, difficult road ahead.
Due to all of Don's health complications he was faced with the difficult decision to leave his job of 20 years at Wolfe Auto Group to give himself a fighting chance. As you can imagine, there are significant financial costs that come along with the transplant process including the unexpected reduction in income, purchases of special equipment, costs of special diets just to name a few. Not only is there significant stress and anxiety that goes along with the thought of undergoing a transplant, but the added stress of finances and uncertainty of the future.
We would love to be able to take that financial stress off of Don so that when he comes home in a few weeks he can focus on recovering, gaining his strength back, working on his new lifestyle, and getting to the point that he can do all the things he used to love so much - cook delicious meals, spend time with his family, and watch his grandkids grow older. Don has made such an impact on so many lives, we are confident he has all the support in the world to get through this and come out the other side stronger than ever! Thank you so much for helping out our beloved husband, dad, and grandpa. <3
