On April 10th, Don's 60th birthday, he headed out to play golf with his friends at Singing Hills.  By the 2nd hole, he began experiencing shortness of breath and an abnormal increase in his heart rate. He was taken to an Urgent Care where they found high levels of troponin. Fearing a possible heart attack he was transported to Scripps Mercy ER. The EKG, echocardiogram and angiogram didn't show anything wrong so he was sent home the next day with aspirin and Lipitor. Fast forward to Tuesday morning, April 13th, where he began experiencing a bad headache. It became so intense that his kids called 911 where he was immediately transported to Scripps Encinitas. That headache turned out to be a 4" blood clot in his brain -  the diagnosis was a Hemorrhagic Stroke.  It took 2 surgeries to remove the clot and stop the bleeding.

His post-op recovery was at Scripps La Jolla where they have a top-notch neurology center. He is now at Sharp Acute Rehabilitation Center in Kearny Mesa where he is trying to recuperate with intense therapy.  His family is hoping to bring him home in a few weeks where he will continue outpatient Brain Injury rehabilitation. They have a long road ahead of them to get Don to the man we all know and love.
