Don (Norm) & Terri Duret & Family

This fundraising effort is for Terri & Don (Norm) Duret.

Ten months ago Don/Norm suffered a major stroke. The damage from the stroke was extensive and he has required many medical interventions including brain surgery to survive and recover. After five months in hospital, Norm was eventually released into the care of his family at home. This is a big moment but it also means that he needs to have 24-hour care because of his limited mobility and he is not able to talk, read, or write and remains a high risk for falls as he learns to walk again.

Terri and Don live in Winnipeg Beach with their 2 daughters, Beth (16) and Lena (10). During Don's initial recovery the family commuted daily to Winnipeg to be with him. Since the stroke, Terri took a leave from her job as an Environmental Consultant to be with Norm. He currently cannot be left alone. With the family home being so far away from the city Terri has been the sole provider of care for him. Their family is facing many life-altering challenges including financial, proximity to and costs for much-needed physio, speech, psychological and massage therapies, and care for Don during the day which would allow Terri to return to work.

The family is currently looking at what their options are as Terri manages Norm's care and recovery and looks for ways to support the family financially. Terri is trying to access long-term benefits/insurance which are in question until she is ultimately able to return to work.

It is Christmas time. As friends and family, we want to support this family as they navigate challenges of finding home care, setting up the home so it is accessible for Norm, and for Norm's continued therapy in recovery.
