Don Brown's Car Accident Recovery Fund

Donation protected
Tuesday, April 11th, started as an average day but ended in a way we could have never imagined. As I was leaving work, my phone rang with the scariest call I have ever received. Don had been in a horrible car accident and was brought by ambulance to the hospital. Decatur Memorial stabilized him, but he was life-flighted to Springfield, where a neurosurgeon was on staff. When we arrived at the hospital, I was met with nurses and consent forms. We were told he had suffered a traumatic brain injury and that they would be performing life-saving surgery on one, potentially two, bleeds in his brain. He spent three hours in surgery, but by the universe's grace, he came out of it ok. He then spent almost 3 weeks under heavy sedation while he was healing. They determined he also had a fracture in his right arm and a broken left orbital bone. Anyone that knows Don knows he is a fighter, and boy, did he fight.

After almost a month in the hospital, he is ready to come home! He is doing well in physical therapy but will need continued cognitive treatment as he still suffers from the effects of the brain injury. He will also need 24/7 supervision at home until he is cleared by his doctors. Because he had a craniectomy, he is missing a good portion of the left side of his skull. This means he will be out of work until he has another surgery to replace the lost piece. Because of this, as his fiancé, I am reaching out for help. We are a two-income household, and even though I will continue to work, because of his supervision needs, things are a little tight for us. We would greatly appreciate any donations to help with medical bills, housing, vehicle, rehab, home health aides, and any other expenses that may come up during his recovery. Unfortunately, this is a marathon, not a sprint, so his journey will be long. Still, he is doing exceptionally well, and we are so thankful!

Thank you all for your continued support! Don means a lot to many people and is one of the strongest individuals I know. If anyone can bounce back from this, it is him!
