Dominic’s Emergency Surgery & Recovery

Donation protected
Hi my name is Brent Tupper & I have chosen to start a go fund me for my close friend/mentor Dominic Torro who was involved in an avalanche (Airplane Gully) in the Great Gulf Wilderness in New Hampshire on 12/9. All precautions were taken & this was not an act of irresponsible, uneducated decisions as the media has led many to believe.

He suffered a serious compound tibia/fibia fracture just above his boot top which then led to developing compartment syndrome while awaiting surgery. A painful and dangerous condition caused by pressure buildup from internal bleeding or swelling of tissues.
National Guard was able to locate him by a Blackhawk helicopter & lift him out after 4 hours.

The combined medical experience & response time of him & his partner really saved him in this situation. Remember this could have happened to any one of us that recreates in the backcountry.

Two years ago I followed Dominic on social media and saw the stuff he was sharing. I really wanted to get into that sport. Backcountry Skiing. I reached out and he told recommended I try hiring a guide because of the inherent dangers.

Fast forward two months. I found Redline Guiding, a guiding company in Intervale, NH and decided to hire them for a guided day skiing in the backcountry. That day finally came & my guide contacted me by phone. Met him at Redlines Basecamp to prepare for the day and check gear. It was Dominic. I couldn’t believe it. The guy I was following on social media. What a small world, right!? He guided me safely up Mt Washington after discussing hazards, dangers, weather, etc. with skis on our back and safely back to our vehicles.

Ever since that day I’ve looked up to him. Every question I’ve had about gear, weather, snow science, backcountry safety, avalanche education, you name it! He’s led me in the right direction every time & helped shape me into the safe & responsible backcountry skier I am today. I am so grateful to still have him here!

Dominic has a long road to recovery after four surgeries and we all know times are going to be tough with not being able to work. Him & his girlfriend Veronica provide for her three kids. Veronica works & has worked as an LNA for the past 6 years and is in nursing school full time to become an RN, with a semester left. Dominic works as an Electrical Designer.

We all know medical debt can be more than overwhelming and times are going to be tough on this family for the next 6 months. My hope with this is to see if any of us could help out and donate just a little bit to lighten this family’s load. I do not have a goal to reach with this but it made me pick one. Please, please, consider helping this family get through this tough time.

Remember anything helps guys. I would do it for you.
Thank you so much!
