Dominic have an operation in US so he can walk
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Chris, and I am trying to raise money for my 14-year-old son, Dominic, who desperately needs an operation on his legs to enable him to walk. He has been a wheelchair user for the whole of his life, being born with foot deformities and low muscle tone.
His medical consultants here in the UK have given up, but we, his parents, have found a specialist Doctor in the USA who is able to correct Dom's condition.
Dominic is desperate to walk and be able to access places that normal young people take for granted. He would love to be able to run around and kick a ball, go swimming and ride a bike, things that are denied him because of his disability. Even a beach is not possible for him due to the wheels of his chair just sinking into the ground. Having this operation will change his life.
As Dominic gets older, he is becoming more dependent on us; he has no extended family apart from his younger sister. His quality of life will deteriorate as we, his parents, get older. I am already 71 and find it difficult to cope with his needs.
Medical procedures are costly in the United States, and even after the operation, Dominic will require extensive physiotherapy to make his limbs stronger and walk unaided.
Currently, his feet are curled inwards, and any weight-bearing is uncomfortable for him. Also his knee caps have no stability and dislocate constantly. Having this operation will correct all these deformities and Dominic will not have anymore discomfort.
