Domiana's Home Away From Home
Donation protected
Domiana Smith is in the 10th grade at Grandview Heights High School. Since Sept. 2017, she has been battling an aggressive Pituitary Macroademona. This caused her to miss much of her 9th grade year, while she braved several neurosurgeries and other procedures for a remission in May 2018. Unfortunately, some cells remained and now there is a risk for metastasis. Her best treatment option is in Cincinnati's Children's Hospital Proton Center. Her family is awaiting a call in the next two weeks to begin a treatment which will last 5 days a week for 6 weeks.
Because of the side effects of the treatment, Domiana will need to stay in Cincinnati. There isn't a nearby Ronald McDonald House, but the hospital has found an extended stay option for the family. This is critical not only for treatment, but to help with the conditions brought on by the multiple previous surgeries. Domiana has hypothalamic obesity and adrenal insufficiency among other issues, which must be monitored closely. She has a specific eating plan, and the extended stay housing has a kitchen. The housing will also allow Domiana's older sister, father, and family dog to visit.
Brenda, Domiana's mom, will be able to work remotely from Cincinnati during the treatment, but the cost of the extended stay housing is not covered by insurance. The estimated cost of the stay is $5, 500. No family should to worry about housing while their child is fighting an illness, and having some help from our village will make this a little bit easier for Domiana.
