Help Emma Rebuild Her Life After Domestic Abuse

As a foreign citizen currently living in London, I find myself in a desperate situation. Due to my immigration status, I have no access to public funds. I am reaching out for your support to help me escape an abusive marriage that has left me feeling trapped, fearful, and physically unsafe. I was married in November 2021 after a relationship that began in 2018, but my journey has been marked by years of severe domestic abuse, coercive control, and emotional manipulation at the hands of my husband and his family. Throughout the relationship, I endured physical assaults, including a serious attack in March 2025 that forced me to flee and report the violence to the police.

My soon-to-be former husband’s abuse has been escalating over some time, involving physical assaults, and destruction of our shared flat and furniture. In addition I have faced threats of deportation, intimidation, and verbal abuse, including degrading slurs and relentless monitoring of my private life. As the violent episodes escalated, fuelled by alcohol and untreated mental health issues, I found myself increasingly isolated from my friends and my own identity. Manipulative tactics from my soon-to-be former in-laws and husband aimed to control every aspect of my life, subjecting me to ongoing harassment and blackmail. This relentless abuse took a toll on my mental health, leading to panic disorder, PTSD, and anxiety. My physical and emotional well-being deteriorated, resulting in hospitalisations and panic attacks, all while being made to believe that I was the cause of my husband’s anger and instability, further deepening my sense of helplessness.

Update on Emma's Journey

However, in March 2025, after a violent assault, I found the courage to escape and sought police protection. On May 27th 2025, my former partner and abuser was arrested on charges of assault and battery and has since been banned from our shared property. While this is a significant step forward, I am currently facing imminent financial stress due to the financial abuse inflicted by my former partner. I have been unable to work, which has compounded the impact on my mental and physical health. Navigating the legal proceedings to separate my immigration status from my abuser, along with communicating with police, lawyers, landlord, victim support, and housing services, has been incredibly time-consuming and stressful. This process has triggered panic attacks and heightened anxiety as I prepare to face my former husband in court for a permanent non-molestation order, all while dealing with ongoing threats and harassment from his family. I am therefore forced to relive painful memories of harassment, pestering, and stalking that have controlled my life for far too long. Although the MVDAC has been filed and progress is being made, I am feeling heartbroken, struggling to function, and living in constant fear of potential repercussions from my former husband and his family.

Your continued support means the world to me during this extremely challenging time. Thank you for your kindness and compassion as I work to reclaim my life and find healing.
