Help Dominica in her fight against stage 4 cancer

Donation protected
It is with deep gratitude that we reach out to the community, friends and family of Dominica Sweet.  As many of you know, Dominica (Dom) has been living with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma for well over a decade and has now reached a place where her Stage 4 Lymphoma has become a fight for her life.

Dominica is a mom of two incredible boys, Jackson and Harrison, a wife to Derek, a sister, a daughter and a friend to a massive group of loving souls. “Dom” (as we know her) has been the one who has constantly cared for others, whether it was as a Respiratory Therapist for fourteen years or as a friend or family member. She has always been the one to be thinking about those around her and ensuring that their love bucket is full.

Dom and Derek

Dominica and Derek first learned of Dom’s diagnosis when her boys were 5 & 7 years of age. They were pregnant with their third child when they found out she had Stage 3 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. They soon realized that they needed to terminate the pregnancy to begin aggressive chemotherapy treatment. This devastating news began what has become an eleven-year journey that has included countless chemotherapy regimens, a painful bone marrow transplant, a month of invasive radiation, a splenectomy and immunotherapy treatment that involved biweekly trips to Vancouver for IV infusions.  Some of this treatment resulted in lowering the tumor load, but none of it has been able to rid her of the cancer.  Four years ago, Dom’s liver became affected by the cancer and her diagnosis progressed to Stage 4 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

INSPIRATION

If you have been fortunate enough to know Dominica you have watched her rise above the typical journey of having cancer. She has never once let her diagnosis hold her back. In fact, she has raised her boys, loved upon her family, traveled and grabbed hold of whatever amount of faith, inspiration and courage she could muster to be able to live her life as fully as possible.  When things would’ve kept most people down, it became the fuel for her next level of living. In 2013, five years into her cancer diagnosis, Dom designed, developed and launched Dom’s Deodorant – a natural deodorant company that continues to thrive to this day.  She continues to inspire all who love her.

PRESENTLY

At the present time Dom is not in the same place that she has been in the year’s prior. Since the involvement of her liver and the unsuccessful delivery of further chemotherapy, her cancer has become much more aggressive. She has lost considerable weight, her energy has dropped significantly and fluid has been accumulating in her lungs – making it difficult to breathe. Her most recent scan has revealed that the cancer has since spread to her bones and lungs with increased tumor load in her liver and elsewhere. The effects have been devastating. Her Oncologist has acknowledged that they’ve exhausted all options for any meaningful improvement and as such, he fully supports her decision to seek treatment outside of Canada.

Dominica and her family have heavily researched their options and with considerable communication with cancer specialists, they have decided to embark on a five-week comprehensive Oncology treatment at a well-respected clinic outside of Canada.

It is very expensive.

OUR ASK

It is our desire to be able to gift this opportunity to the Sweet family and to lovingly support Dominica and her formidable healing journey ahead. The cost of the treatment exceeds $100,000 – an amount that is burdensome for a family that has endured so much thus far.  We are humbly asking for whatever amount you can donate.  It would be so greatly appreciated, and above all, it would mean the world to Jackson, Harrison and Derek, who so desperately want their mom/wife to regain her health.

With love and deep gratitude,

On behalf of Derek, Jackson and Harrison Sweet
