In September of 2016, Dana Amoroso defied doctor's expectations and was able to live her dream of becoming a mother. Giuliano Cole is the healthy and beautiful son born to Dana and her partner Chris. Unfortunately, in this time of happiness, Dana was blindsided with a serious medical condition.
Excruciating left flank pain in the second trimester of her pregnancy forced Dana to seek medical care. Ultrasound revealed that she has a rapidly growing mass on her spleen. Her doctor recommended a late termination of the pregnancy at 25 weeks in order to perform the diagnostic testing required for an accurate evaluation of her condition. Dana refused to consider sacrificing her son. She sought the care of a specialist and delivered a healthy son through c-section.
In the subsequent months, her condition has degraded. The cystic mass, which was originally 2.1 by 1.1 centimeters, has grown to 6.7 by 7.2 centimeters. The mass is a ticking time bomb and could rupture at any time, resulting in emergency surgery and a costly stay in the ICU. Between endless trips to the doctor, many rounds of diagnostics, and being a new mother, Dana has been unable to steadily work. When she is able, the precarious nature of the mass has limited her abilities in the the physical world of dog grooming and lessened her ability to provide for her family.
After months of testing, Dana's surgery date has been set for May 3rd of this year. Dana's family and friends are looking to raise three thousands dollars in funds to help offset the costs of her procedure and recover losses during prep and recovery. Dana is generous to both the people big and small in her life. She never hesitates to help out a friend or a family member in need. Never putting herself first, she is always quick to give anything she can. Whether it be her time, money, or a nonjudgmental ear, Dana is the very picture of generosity. I hope that we can return the generosity during this time of crisis. Anything that can be donated at this difficult time is appreciated more than words could ever say.
