DOLLARS FOR DOUGIE

Donation protected
On December 2, 2017, Doug Barbieto was diagnosed with a very aggressive form of prostate cancer.  His doctor recommended an immediate prostatectomy to hopefully catch the cancer before it had time to move outside the prostate.  In January 2018, a little over a month after the initial diagnosis, Doug went into surgery to remove his prostate.

Unfortunately, after the surgery, Doug's blood test was still showing signs of elevated PSA, the protein marker that is produced by prostate cells.  This meant that there were still signs of cancerous prostate cells in his body.

With signs indicating the presence of cancer, Doug began a series of 7 radiation treatments to hopefully destroy the cancer cells before they had an opportunity to move beyond the area of the prostate.  On January 12, 2019, his 47th birthday, Doug was dealt another blow.  After the 7 treatments of radiation, there were still PSA markers in his blood and subsequent tests have shown the PSA markers are beginning to elevate rapidly.

Fortunately, Doug has been identified as a possible candidate for a cancer treatment study at the University of California Los Angeles, UCLA.  He will be flying to California April 2nd for his initial screening, if accepted into the study, Doug will have an opportunity to be treated by some of the best Oncologists and cutting edge treatments in the nation. Unfortunately, this study is not covered by insurance and any costs that might be incurred will have to be paid for by Doug and his family.

The hope of this Gofundme drive is to help Doug focus on fighting the fight while letting his friends, family, coworkers, battle buddies, classmates, and F263 brothers and sisters make sure that he doesn't have to worry about how he's going to pay for it.  Doug has spent his life caring for others and now it's our turn to take care of him!
