Tom Dorian was diagnosed March 7th with squamos cell carcinoma of the right tonsil. Tom immediately began treatment and endured 7 weeks of chemotherapy and radiation. Unfortunately, these treatments did not work. In August, Tom was told that the cancer had spread to his tongue and that he must undergo surgery to remove the tumor.
On August 16th Tom went to Christ Hospital to begin his 12 hour throat and neck surgery. The surgery was very invasive and removed the tumor on his tongue and his voicebox. He was told that he would need to spend the first 3 days in the ICU and then an additional 10-12 day hospital stay. Unfortunately, due to complications, Tom spent a total of 18 days in the ICU and in total 21 days in the hospital. During his stay he underwent 6 surgeries.
With that, Tom is being readmitted this Friday, September 13th for a 7th surgery and another 3-5 day hospital stay. He will also need ongoing rehabilitation and help at home on a daily basis through the care of his wife, Darla. Given the circumstances and ongoing care needed, their financial situation has changed dramatically. The Dorian’s have had amazing support from their family and friends, which has been tremendously helpful. However with the many surgeries and care necessary, further financial support is needed.
Tom has been a part of the Bridgeview/Oak Lawn communities for over 50 years. He has been involved with the schools and the church and always extends his help to the community. Any support you have to offer would be greatly appreciated by Tom, his wife Darla, his children Michael (wife Cristina) and Meghan, along with the rest of the Dorian family.
Thank you for any help!
