My dad Darren Nielsen is 59 years old, we live on the Central Coast NSW. My dad has been battling his journey with Motor Neurone Disease since June 2018, we have been told a 2-5 year standard Prognosis and just could not believe any of it.
Our family is just like yours, myself and my brother have been raised by our amazing parents who have been married for 34 years, absolute bestfriends and even better parents. As my mum took time to take work off for my gorgeous, amazing, funny & loving dad to be by his side we received even worse news in August last year they had found a lump in my Mums breast.. it wasn’t benign, A cancer had formed and it was agressive, we had all been kicked from under our feet my poor dad not being mobile or able to communicate felt more hopeless then ever. I am happy to say now in Late February my mum is Cancer Free and back on her feet but unfortunately the same is not for my dad. My dad is the person who lights up the room and everyone constantly asking where he is or when he is coming, the life of the party. Was always helping his friends and family when found out someone was sick or in need of a hand. His heart is so pure and is just an all around family man, he loves his kids it is his biggest prize in life being a dad and a great husband. He always showed up for me and my brother when something was on if it be big or small. Motor Neurone Disease is a Disease that kills the nerves and motor function from brain to all muscles eventually shutting down the body, no worse disease to watch someone go through. The 3 of us are now in charge of his body and movements, this horrible disease has no cure and only struck 22,000 people in Australia. As you can imagine my parents have taken a massive financial blow with my mum not working and dad not having income we have had quite some financial hardship ahead and so I am making this page not for it to be sad or an attention grab, but just to help your neighbour. We all appreciate your help and a chunk of this money will be getting donated for research into this horrible disease for the Motor Neurone Disease. Thankyou so much. Love the Nielsens.
