Doing great with a little help from friends!

Hi, I am Laurie. I am a Certified Nursing Assistant in the Seattle area. I had some issues with my esophagus and after being admitted to the hospital on March 1st to address my first issue they found through an endoscopy that I had Stage 3 Esophageal cancer! Changed the plan completely!

Since I was already malnourished and dehydrated (had not been able to swallow food or get many liquids in me) for about 2 months prior to my hospitalization. To get me caught up they had to start me on IV fluids along with eventually inserting a feeding tube.

The plan then became to get me home and to start chemo and radiation. In order to do so they sent me home with the feeding tube still in place. Not ideal but at least I got to be home.

I returned home on March 17, 2023. Getting appointments arranged to get everything done before I started the treatments took a team! They were/are awesome!

I finished both treatments but I am still getting treatment for hydration 3 x week. (Where I am now). I do not know what the future holds other than more appointments and surgery seem to be imminent.

I look forward to returning back to work whenever that will be and getting on a sail boat again!

I seem to have gone through the worst of the aftermath of effects from treatments but far from feeling great!
