Doherty Brothers Backyard Ironman for Pieta House
Donation protected
We were always taught that a healthy mind leads to a healthy life, and although we currently face the physical threat of the COVID-19 pandemic, many of us are struggling with to cope within in our own mental space. As a family of sporty boys, exercise has always been a key component to our own physical and mental health, and in raising money for Pieta House, we'd hope that those who are suffering can be helped immediately. We'd also hope to inspire others to use exercise as a tool for cultivating well-being and to demonstrate how people can still do a lot within a small confinement which the lock-down has forced us into.
We're all triathletes, but we plan to do the Ironman triathlon as a team, whereby each brother does one discipline. Ethan is the youngest and he'll will start the 3.8km swim at 10am on Sunday 10th May in a blow-up pool. Because the pool's still quite small, he'll be attached by an elastic tether to the side of a pool and swim in place at the best effort he can maintain. Aaron will do the 180km cycle on a turbo trainer on the Zwift virtual training app, and if anyone wants to join him, he’ll begin at 11am. And finally, Con will run a marathon (42.2km) on a treadmill, once Aaron has completed the bike segment. You can also follow Con on the Zwift app! We’ll be all of this challenge in our backyard, and to make the challenge even more difficult, we intend to maintain the current Ironman World Record pace of 7 hours 35 minutes (virtually of course!). You’ll be able to follow us live from 9:45am on Sunday morning live on Con Doherty’s Facebook page. We'd appreciate any support you can offer to Pieta House for suicide and self harm prevention. Please share this too if you can :)
