Meet Hamish: Our Little Conservation Hero
This is Hamish. He’s 5 years old, full of heart, curiosity, and an incredible love for our planet. We live in Nanyuki, Kenya right on the doorstep of some of the world’s most iconic wildlife, and Hamish is already making his mark as a young conservationist.
Hamish has Autism and ADHD, and he also faces daily physical challenges. He experiences mobility issues, swollen joints, and significant pain when walking. His reflexes are delayed, which means he falls easily, and he bruises very quickly, often with painful results. But through it all, Hamish remains bright, brave, and beautifully determined.
He absolutely adores animals especially Rhinos, Giraffes, and Lions.
He’s had the incredible chance to meet Najin and Fatu, the last two northern white rhinos in the world, and shared a very special moment with Baraka, a blind black rhino living peacefully at Ol Pejeta Conservancy. Feeding Baraka sugarcane and carrots was a dream come true for Hamish he still talks about it every day!
Now, Hamish is setting out on a new adventure:
He’s walking 10 kilometers (yes, 10k!) to raise money for Walk4Wildlife, a campaign supporting vital wildlife conservation efforts including the incredible work of Dogs4Wildlife.
Dogs4Wildlife trains and deploys highly skilled anti-poaching dogs and handlers across Africa to protect endangered species from illegal wildlife crime. These loyal and courageous dogs are not just working animals they’re heroes, saving rhinos, elephants, and many others every single day.
Hamish is absolutely inspired by these brave dogs and their handlers, and he wants to walk in their honor. His goal is to raise awareness, protect the wildlife he loves, and show that you don’t have to be big to make a big difference.
If you’d like to support Hamish’s walk, cheer him on, or share his story, we’d be so grateful. Every step he takes is for the wild things he loves with his whole heart.
Because kindness, courage, and conservation all come in small, determined packages.
