It is fitting that "Dog Gone Shame" is my first children's book to be published. I first wrote all four of my children's books (The Education of Topple Fink, Dog Gone Shame, The Legend of Buddy Bear, and Welcome to Brooner Holler) when I was in elementary and middle school. But Dog Gone Shame was my masterpiece! I wrote it during indoor recess when I was in the 3rd grade; 23 pages long, handwritten in black crayon. Back then, to me, it was a novel!
I spent the last few years rewriting all four books and turned them into serials. Now, 30 years later, the dog named Dog has finally been brought to life thanks to my amazing illustrator Travis Molitor. I just sent him the final payment for the illustrations and thanks to Travis all of the pictures are just what I hoped for. Now I am trying to raise the money for the publication fees.
As a freelance writer with 3 main clients, I was able to raise the $1,000 last month to pay for the illustrations. My goal is to get the first book (House Dog) in this five part series in print over the next month, but I need your help. I want The Legend of Buddy Bear (a ghost story for kids) to come out in late September, early October right before Halloween, so getting Dog Gone Shame published this spring is my top priority.
I could use all the help that I can get to stay on schedule. My sincere thanks to Dale Sturgill, the first to help fund me. Now I ask again for your help; friends, family, strangers, whoever! Every little bit helps and I will add all contributors to my list of thanks in the book when it is published.
Thank you in advance for your help!
Sincerely,
Malika "Auntie Liki" Dickerson
