Dog shot in mouth needs emergency surgery
Donation protected
Update: Bullet's surgery went better than expected. Instead of having two free floating mandibles, she'll have a fairly solid mandible due to less bone having to be removed than originally expected. Her sutures will be removed in two weeks, her spay has been scheduled. She's also been vaccinated, dewormed and microchipped. Bullet now wears a cute pink collar with tags and has an adorable jacket she wears when she goes for walks. More photos and updates will be posted on the website spqnihorses.org
Bullet's adoption is pending!
My neighbors dog was shot in the mouth. She's in excruciating pain and unable to eat or drink. Due to recent deaths in my neighbors family they are unable to afford veterinary bills. Another neighbor has generously offered to donate some money for vet bills however this is no where near enough and we need your help! We are transporting the dog to Mt Spokane Veterinary Hospital where she will be stabilized, given pain medication and started on antibiotics before undergoing surgery to fix her mouth. We expect veterinary costs to reach $5000.
Spqni Horses Equines in Transition is a non profit equine program. We help horses transition from one point of life to another through training and adoption services. We now also care for dogs and we have Bullet to thank! While we are not an animal shelter, we do have limited foster care. Our foster space is limited to emergency situations within the Spokane Indian Reservation. We do adopt to qualified applicants and consider out of state adoptions as well.

EDITED: Dr. Wood at Mt Spokane Veterinary Hospital was able to sedate and take radiographs which revealed the extend of the dog's injuries. Her lower jaw is shattered beyond repair, the bullet a .45 is lodged in her armpit area. She was very lucky the bullet did not penetrate any vital organs however, her lower jaw will need to be removed. She will still be able to drink normally and eat soft foods. We are waiting to hear from the surgeon on the estimated cost of surgery. For now the dog is resting comfortably and is drinking and eating a liquid diet.
Update 01/17/2023
We have a estimate for surgery and it's much lower than we were expecting which is a huge relief. Our new estimate is $1,500, this will cover the surgery and after care visits and medications.
Surgery is scheduled for January 27th.
