Dog Rescue needs help to cover £6K vet bill

Saving and Rehoming Strays is a kennel free dog rescue based in Ayr, Scotland who not only rehome dogs, but also offer sanctuary to 40 plus dogs that will probably never rehome.

Many of these dogs have already been with us for many years, but as they get older their medical bills are increasing and our months vets bills are becoming quite scarey as we currently have over 20 dogs that are between 10 and 14 years of age.

In addition to our sanctuary dogs, we also take on lots of dogs for rehoming that other rescues will not take because of the significant financial investment needed to get them ready for adoption.

Saving and Rehoming Strays also medically support several of our adopted dogs in their forever homes. These are dogs that had conditions that would probably have precluded them from finding a home.

One of the major factors that affects us though is the fact that many of our dogs are not handleable, so something as simple as treating an infected ear, grooming or even just clipping toenails requires the dogs to be sedated.

The law of sod dictated that this month we had a combination of all of the above in very large numbers and we have been left with an eye watering vet bill.

I do also need to add, that we have the most amazing vet and I can guarantee that these costs would be double or even treble if we didn’t.

As a charity we work very hard to be self sufficient and are always running fundraisers and events to help cover our costs, but sometimes we have to reach out to ask for financial assistance and this months vets bill is one of those times

We always have a monthly vet bill of over £2K, but had many special cases this month that have caused it to skyrocket …

These include …

Chemotherapy for Luci, the mummy dog we took on with her litter of puppies who we discovered had a sticker tumour.

The after treatment for the lovely Gabe, who ended up in the hands of unscrupulous vets in Dover and cost us an arm and a leg to get released.

Ongoing investigations to try to figure out the cause of Bentleys very unstable glucose levels which are affecting his treatment for juvenile diabetes.

Summer grooming for Muffin, Leo and Pavel. All who required sedation and all who had blood test etc whilst they were under an anaesthetic.

And so the list goes on …

I really hate to have to ask, but any amount, no matter how small would go a big way towards helping us clear this bill and enable us to carry on with our life changing work ❤️

Many Thanks
