"On Wednesday, November 5th, what began as a simple laundry day in our building turned into a nightmare. My beloved dog, Chilly, spotted our dear friend and neighbor’s dog walking by. We always take extra precautions to avoid crossing paths on the street or around the neighborhood, but that day it caught us both completely off guard.

We were on our way back upstairs when Chilly suddenly pulled, and I lost my grip on his slippery plastic leash—my hand was still wet and soapy from adjusting the laundry. I chased after him into the street, and both my friend and I did everything we could to keep the dogs apart. In the struggle, I sustained severe injuries to my dominant arm while trying to protect Chilly, and he suffered deep puncture wounds, scrapes, and bruises, including a large tear in the tissue along his rib cage where the other dog managed to latch on.

What followed was a traumatic twenty minutes of chaos. My friend’s poor dog was also badly hurt while trying to separate them. My dog, Chilly, ended up in critical condition, requiring emergency surgery and ongoing veterinary care. He has already undergone two surgeries, and both of us now face months of recovery. This has made it impossible for either of us to work, and the sudden, overwhelming medical bills have left us struggling.
