My name is Shane Deery. I’m godfather and uncle to Joseph Deery.’joes 25yrs old and is a fantastic young man. He’s determined and committed to trying to live a fulfilling life. However at a young age he was struck down with kidney disease .

It was a huge shock to the family to process that Joe required dialysis and eventually a kidney transplant. Joe received a transplant in early 2009 a month before his 9th Birthday. This was particularly difficult as we’d just entered a recession but my brother Jude and his wife Mary never asked for any help either financially or otherwise. This was a tough situation to find themselves in as a family especially Joe. This transplant lasted up until approximately 2022 and this kidney began to fail. It was an again so difficult for this family to accept the road to dialysis and eventually for Joseph to cease all activities that kept him active and independent. Joe received a call on Sunday night 26th at 10pm to go to Beaumont hospital as a kidney had become available. Joseph had his transplant yesterday Tuesday 29th and was taken to his ward last night around 9pm. He’s once again on dialysis due to high potassium levels after surgery. We hope this levels out but they were told the kidney is beginning to produce urine by itself. The reason for raising funds is to help Joseph financially to make plans to better his future to possibly travel to see his brother Robert in Australia and finally begin a normal working life at 25. He’s tried so hard to be upbeat and positive. The family also have alluded to sharing any funds that might be raised to help others in their journey to a better quality of life by donating to the Irish kidney foundation. There’s a lot more to this story but in general it’s best to just be forthright and honest and keep it simple.
