Dodger the Magical Dog

Update: it is with great sadness we share that our little bean dog Dodger did not survive his surgery. The bullet was deeply embedded in his neck, and we had thought it was the right decision to try to remove it. However, the surgery attempt triggered fatal internal bleeding. His costs for trying are still close to $5,000 if there is the opportunity to help us cover the costs It was an ambitious plan, and while we are deeply saddened we are grateful that his last few days where filled with love and kindness. He had a big impact on the people he met on his journey south, and two of those he encountered were interested to adopt.

Hello, we are Snow Dog Sanctuary, and are on a mission to help this sweet boy Dodger. Dodger is from the very high Arctic in Nunavut and has sustained a bullet wound to his neck. We were very fortunate to be supported by some kind people, as he was able to get to Ottawa in less than 48 hours of when we heard of him, and he is undergoing surgery in Ottawa on January 22. He will then travel to Vancouver to be fostered and adopted (and meet some of his litter mates). He is considered a miracle dog to have survived a gun shot for around six days before we could get him to the vet, all while maintaining a very loving attitude to toward people and food. There is no judgement in how he got shot, as Arctic life is challenging for dogs and population management. However, this particular dog became quite dear to us, as we had brought his other five litter mates south in September.
