Documenting Iraq's collapsing Heritage

I am a post-doctoral researcher at University College London.

I recently visited Iraq to document Iraq's cultural heritage. Iraq is experiencing a major cultural crisis as its national heritage is facing unprecedented collapse and degradation.

I have proposed that we purchase 15GoPro 9 cameras, to donate to 15 Iraqi archaeologists in key provinces of

Baghdad
Nineveh
Basrah
Diyala
Anbar
Salahadeen
Kirkuk
Maysan
Karbala
Najaf
Wasit
DhiQar
Muthanna
Diwaniyah
Babylon

A dedicated Youtube channel will be created based on the cultural and archaeological sites that are being eroded by the lack of care, maintenance and sustainability.

This is just a first step to giving the basic tools for Iraqi archeologists, who have since 2003, been starved of resources.

As a matter of good faith, I will be using my own money to buy two GoPro cameras. Each GoPro Hero 9 camera (with accessories) costs £430 in the UK.

I will take these cameras to Iraq myself once sufficient funds have been raised.

The idea of using this particular camera is to provide videos and not only photos of Iraq's cultural heritage.

This is just a basic step to making sure Iraqi archeologists are heard and that future actions can be taken based on their documentation.
