Doctors Without Masks/Medecins Sans Masques

We are raising $23,000 to purchase and ship approximately 10,000 N95 masks to protect frontline medical providers. Any funds raised in excess of $23,000 will be utilized to purchase and ship additional masks. My fiancé and I, Dr. Noelle Breslin (OBGYN, MFM Fellow Columbia University Medical Center), are contributing the first $2,000 from our wedding fund.
New York area hospitals, like hospitals across the globe, are critically low on Personal Protective Equipment ("PPE"). The N95 mask, which provides medical professionals with protection from airborne pathogens, including the novel COVID19 virus, is especially scarce.
As you read this, doctors, nurses, and other frontline medical professionals at New York Presbyterian Hospital, as well as other hospitals around the country, are entering rooms to treat infected patients without appropriate PPE. They are aware that doing so will make them sick, or worse. They keep doing it anyway.
After engaging in considerable research, we have identified multiple options from which we can source masks. The first potential source will permit us to order 10,000 masks at a rate of approximately $1.90 per mask. The second source has a minimum order requirement of 100,000 masks at a rate of approximately $.45 per mask. Obviously, we would prefer to take advantage of the economies of scale, but have set a more modest fundraising goal. There is a lag time between order, production, shipment, and receipt. The sooner we raise the money, the sooner the doctors get the masks.
If you cannot donate money, but have N95 masks, or any other masks, at home or at your business, please consider donating them directly to your local hospital. Masks used by construction and demolition teams can perform "double duty" for health care professionals.
Everyone who donates will receive proof that all of the money collected was used for the purchase of PPE in the following form:
(1) A copy of the receipt or receipts from all purchases; and
(2) A copy of the bill of lading and any other shipment documentation.
Please note that we cannot guarantee that masks will be received in a timely fashion. If you are considering donating, you should also be aware that scammers do exist. We are doing, and will continue to do, everything in our power under the circumstances to expedite shipment of the masks after we raise the requisite funds and to source them from legitimate manufacturers. We make this disclosure in the interests of complete transparency. We believe that the need for masks is so acute that all risks are justified.
In the interest of clarity, we intend to donate 100% of the masks we purchase to the New York Presbyterian Children's Hospital where Dr. Breslin is providing care to infected pregnant women, many of whom suffer from high risk pregnancies due to complex maternal and/or fetal issues. We understand that there is a dire need for masks across the nation. We encourage everyone to do the best they can for their local hospitals in addition to supporting our charitable efforts.
Human capital is our most important, and least renewable, resource. Please do what you can to support your local healthcare workers. Your life may depend on keeping them healthy.
