Ashley K. Thomas Scholarship Fund

On October 8, 2016 an angel earned her wings. Ashley K. Thomas was a passionate, genuine, and creative spirit who encouraged and empowered others everywhere she went. At the center of her being, Ashley was a healer who wanted nothing more than to be a medical doctor. Unfortunately, she was met with disappointment and rejection that she thought at times would defeat her. Her dream was deferred 13 times before she was accepted to a Medical Program at Drexel University. On her journey to medicine, she found her inner strength and tenacity, so before her death she committed  herself to inspiring others to do the same.

 
The result of that commitment is DocNLocs.Com: a Guide for the Atypical Medical School Hopeful. The site serves as a support forum for those who aspire to practice medicine but have been met with rejection due to modest GPAs, novice interview skills, less competitive test scores, etc. However, Ashley also understood all too well how taxing chasing dreams can be on both a the spirit and one's finances. Thus, In her memory, we are creating a scholarship fund that will enhance her DocNLocs initiative by awarding vouchers to med school hopefuls for retaking the MCAT, MCAT prep courses, medical school applications, and other costs associated with the med school application process.


Though she was only here for 27 years, she took the time to create something she believed would leave the world better than she found it. Ashley created a space in this world where those who feel in adequate can find confidence, those who feel defeated can find encouragement, and those with dreams deferred can heal their broken wings.  At her core, she was a healer...
