My Dad, Dwayne “Doc” DeWitt, is a very proud patriotic man with lots of pride and has never asked for much and certainly doesn’t want pity. He is unaware of this prayer / support request.
But my heart ❤️ is broken. My SuperMan (my Dad “Doc”) has taken a scary health hit. However, my sprits remain high because he has God in his heart and an amazing support team. Dad has many many wonderful friends he has developed all across his beloved western Kentucky and our great nation.
About six weeks ago Dad thought he had pneumonia, but he got the bad news he has lung cancer. He has never smoked or used drugs and is the epitome of health. He has always preached to his family “… your health is your wealth!!” Dad has helped so many people throughout his life and career in law enforcement. He served his hometown Owensboro, Ky as a police officer for 4+ years and across our nation, as a proud United States Marshal for over 25 years - where he served as a member of SOG - Special Operations Group for 8 +years.
He has also helped and donated his time and money, while training and coaching hundreds of kids for over 22 years (10+ as High School JV and Varsity coach). Not only did they win championships and tournaments, those he coached and trained, also set PRs that they never dreamed they could achieve. He’s the only HS coach I know that returned his salary to the sports program and never charged coaching fees for Select or Travel Teams he coached. He opened his fitness training to any and every one for free!
Dad has stepped up and served his community his whole life and continues to do so. Dad carries himself like a tough guy…and indeed, that he is…but what you may not know is that he has a huge and loving patriotic heart and empathy for people who are in need. He’s the person that can always be counted on to show up to move family members/friends, train aspiring athletes, and help the elderly. He performs random acts of kindness such as removing snow from neighborhors’ cars, mowing yards, returning other’s abandoned shopping carts, donating money to small churches, paying church camp fees for less fortunate and buying sports equipment for those who can’t afford it or simply trying to protect Earth by picking up litter and trash, planting trees and recycling.
Dwayne Doc DeWitt is a prideful man who has always worked and made his own way. But now my dad is in a life or death battle and he needs our help. He has started chemo and immunotherapy and is fighting hard. I’m reaching out to his friends, fellow workers, those he trained/coached and all their families to ask you for your monetary help on his behalf. It’s your time to give back to him. His wife, Tonya, is self employed and a small business owner. And as with many small businesses the past two years has brought on additional hardships due to Covid. She will be tending to dad during this battle and will need to miss a lot of work with no paid sick leave or vacation time to use. Money is the last thing they need to be worried about right now.
As we all know, life can change in a blink of an eye. My hard-headed Dad has no 401k or life insurance, and his insurance only pays for a portion of the cost. Please help me give Dad and Tonya some peace of mind during this difficult time. Any donation will go directly to them so they can pay bills, unpaid research treatment, out-of-pocket medical expenses and cover his extensive medical treatment. Love you all.
